The Rock Challenge team from Nursling C of E Primary School are celebrating our overall third placing in the Be Your Best Foundation Rock Challenge competition. This competition encourages young people to lead healthy lifestyles as well as promoting dance and drama. The vision of the Be Your Best Foundation is to contribute to improving the quality of life for all of society by encouraging young people to take an active role in building safe and healthy communities. This spectacular production, held on 26th February 2016, was the culmination of many months of hard work and amazing dedication. It was an amazing journey, on which children discovered and developed talents and leadership they were hitherto unaware of. The production involved 66 pupils from years 4, 5 and 6 who have displayed enthusiasm, energy and commitment of the highest order and have provided a feast of exciting entertainment. They were supported by teachers, the local community and parents all of whom are an integral part of the Rock Challenge Production. The continued contribution of our volunteers and parents has also been central to this year's success and awards which we are very thankful for.

Here are some of our awards: Award for Student Leadership, Award for Positive Inclusion, as well as the following awards for Excellence: Entertainment, Lighting, Drama, Stage use, Soundtrack, Costuming Character, Stage Crew and Concept.

Our performance shows the journey of a young man who discovers that we all have talents and if you try hard, you will unlock your potential.

We chose to enter this Competition to give every child the opportunity to partake in a non-academic event, which is designed to build confidence, self-esteem and allow children the chance to develop talents other than Learning and Sport. After months of planning, trying ideas and rehearsing, the children are given the opportunity to go on stage and perform a highly polished show at the O2 Guildhall in Southampton in front of an audience of 1000 people. This is an amazing experience for a primary school child.

Part of the competition entails fundraising in order to pay for materials, choreographers, props and scenery, costumes and other items needed for the show. This year the children worked very hard, and organised their own Christmas Fayre, raising over £400 for a single event! As our school is small, raising enough money to cover costs is always a challenge, and so we approached Barker Mills to assist with the finances. The very generous donation of £1500 has been used towards paying some of these costs.

We would like to say on behalf of the school how overwhelmingly proud we are of every single child who took part in this year’s Rock Challenge, you were simply amazing! Throughout the day we had many compliments on how well you all behaved and how much fun you appeared to be having. We hope that through our theme you have discovered that if you try hard enough, you will achieve your goals.

A huge thank you must go out to everyone who helped out with our production it is a mammoth undertaking and we wouldn’t be able to do it without all you, who so generously volunteered your time.

To all the parents and staff who attended the performance a huge thank you for your unwavering support and commitment throughout all the rehearsals.

Look forward to seeing what we can achieve in 2018!
